Ballet has been around for a long time now and it will still stay there for a longer time. It will flourish and thrive as long as there is an actual society that would enrich this even further. Gone are the days when there were patrons who would sponsor ballerinas though. Instead, we have entertainment firms and schools and a whole lot more who makes ballet a big deal. The problem with ballet in general is the fact that its gotten leaner. Singapore has seen ups and downs in the number of enrollees. There are still a lot of ballet class in Singapore enrollees, but the influx of new students who enroll have slowed.
There’s a number of reasons for that to happen. It could be because of the money involved in pursuing training. Let’s all admit that money has become tougher to obtain and we would rather see it used for the basic necessities like food, shelter or clothing. Still there are a lot of parents who send their kids to ballet school even if its tough. They recognize their child’s passion for dancing and performing and they want to enrich it. These parents are rare and few, but don’t get me wrong. There’s equal respect for both parents who puts priority on necessities and parents who want to encourage their kids’ passion. We also can’t fault them for doing what they do. Another factor that comes along as to why there’s a decline in enrollments for ballet is because of the location. There are so many people that wants to get into this particular skill or hobby but cannot because of the location of the ballet studios from their home. With the current trend of people moving away from the city and starting to find a way to enjoy the daily commute, its becoming increasing difficult to do ballet for kids. This is because it puts an additional stop and additional expense for parents. It also lengthens the travel time and limits the time spent at home. This is not just exclusive for kids who want to learn ballet. But this is also for women and men who would like to learn the finer points of dancing. They need to go and meet their physical fitness metrics. It would be difficult and a challenge already to go to the studio from their workplaces to be able to attend their ballet fitness class. An extra hour of travel though would be ruin their schedules and time tables. So, this is the reason why there are still a lot of people wish they could do ballet classes. One other factor that makes people avoid enrolling in ballet classes is because of the number of opportunities that await. Think about it, you build your skills and spend the money. You sweat it out and you show promise. Then at the end of the day or at the end of your ballet journey, you want to go professional. The problem is that its no longer feasible to make a break through. If you want to go and become a successful ballerina, you have to exert twice or even thrice the effort. The dilemma is, should you or should you not?
